Pip Value Calculator

Find out what one pip is worth in dollars for any forex major or cross, at any lot size. Pip value is what turns a price move into profit or loss, so it is the number behind every stop-loss and every position size.

Velotrade leverage on EURUSD: 50x in the challenge, 30x when funded. 1 lot = 100,000 EUR.

Prices are examples. Replace them with the live price from your platform.

How to use this calculator

01

Pick the pair

Choose from 28 majors and crosses. The calculator knows that yen pairs use the second decimal as a pip and every other pair uses the fourth.

02

Set your lots

Enter a lot size or tap standard, mini or micro. One standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency.

03

Read the pip value

You get the dollar value of one pip, plus 10 pips, 100 pips and the position value. Cross pairs ask for the quote currency in dollars.

What these numbers mean

Pip: The standard unit of price movement. For most pairs it is the fourth decimal place (0.0001). On yen pairs it is the second decimal place (0.01).
Pip value: What a one-pip move is worth in your account currency for the position you hold. It scales with lot size.
Pipette: One tenth of a pip. Many platforms quote prices to a fifth decimal, and that last digit is a pipette.
Lot: A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot is 10,000 and a micro lot is 1,000.
Quote currency: The second currency in the pair. Pip value is first worked out in this currency and then converted to dollars.
Notional value: The full market value of the position. It is your real exposure and the amount leverage applies to.

The pip value formula, with examples

Pip value = Lots × 100,000 × Pip size × Quote currency in USD

The pip size is 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for pairs quoted in yen. If the pair is quoted in dollars, the last term is 1. If the dollar is the base currency, as in USDJPY or USDCAD, divide by the price instead. For a cross such as EURGBP, use what one unit of the quote currency is worth in dollars.

EURUSD, dollar quote

  • One standard lot is 100,000 × 0.0001 = $10 per pip.
  • A mini lot (0.10) is $1 per pip and a micro lot (0.01) is $0.10 per pip.
  • A 25 pip move on 0.50 lots is 25 × $5 = $125.

USDJPY at 150.00, dollar base

  • One pip is 0.01, so one standard lot moves 100,000 × 0.01 = 1,000 yen per pip.
  • Convert to dollars by dividing by the price: 1,000 ÷ 150 = $6.67 per pip.
  • The pip value shifts a little as USDJPY moves, which is why the price is an input.

EURGBP with the pound at $1.30, a cross

  • One standard lot is 100,000 × 0.0001 = 10 pounds per pip.
  • Multiply by what one pound is worth in dollars: 10 × 1.30 = $13.00 per pip.
  • Crosses need the pound rate, which is why the calculator asks for it.
